3rd draft Personal Statement

I have always believed my dream in becoming an Interior Designer and this desire has grown stronger and more definite over many years. I enjoy being creative and see this as one of my life skills. I know creative skills will be highly in demand in the future in the world of business. As well as being creative, a successful Interior Designer needs good management skills and it is for this reason that I am applying for a Design Management course.

I am taking Physics, Geography and Design & Technology for my A2 level. I have learnt a lot of different aspects related to Interior Design and Design Management. I have developed my knowledge of design which includes: the different issues affecting the environment and human; managing the use of natural resources; strength and stress of different materials. I particularly enjoy the practical part of my DT lessons, I feel pleasure for the feeling of success after making a product out of my own hands and able to use it. My GCSE project on a storage unit for students is a source of great pride.

The reason for feeling so strongly about being a designer is not only because I have a great interest in designing but D&T has been my favourite subject from an early age. Moreover, Interior Design has given me more opportunity to express myself than any other design subjects. It is amazing that how an interior designer can change the colour of the place or move the furniture around to make a great difference. I remember how I moved around furniture at home when I was little. I am also sensitive to the combination of different colours and love to doodle on a piece of paper with colouring pencils. I feel very strongly that having a comfortable and satisfying place to live, will be the most important thing after health and wealth.

Other than dealing with school work, I have been a form leader and a member of the school senior and chamber choir. I enjoyed performing on stage and taking part in school musicals and dance competitions. I am a member of the 2004 Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme through which I was trained to take a role of promoting Hong Kong Tourism. I was the IT and Design Director of the school 2004 Young Enterprise Company which had a successful year creating and promoting a cultural book about 26 different countries. These have to improve my IT and Design skills. During my vacation after my GCSE exams, I had work experience helping back stage in a drama production in a primary school. My job involved making props and back stage management requiring a lot of organisation. I have worked part time in KFC as a team member since September 2004 and my job involves till handling and customer services. All these events have allowed me to meet different people outside school and to develop my self-confidence and my communication skills. I feel that being an Interior Designer, good communication skills will be important.

In my free time, I like to spend my time reading, listening to music and photography. In recent years, I have used quite a lot of Photoshop in my photography. I find it extremely useful and wonderful. I enjoyed socialising with friends and meeting new people which they often give me new ideas and inspirations.
