2nd draft Personal Statement
It has always been my dream to become an Interior Designer and this desire have grown stronger and more definite after many years. I enjoy being creative and seen this as one of my life skill. I can foresee that creative skills will be highly in demand in the future in the world of business. Other than being creative, I also need good management to support myself to become a successful Interior Designer. As I would very much like interior design to be my life career and Design Management would be the ideal course for me.
I am doing Physics, Geography and Design & Technology for my A2 in which I learned a lot of different aspects related to Interior Design and Design Management. The different issues affecting the environment and human, how to manage the use of natural resources; strength and stress of different materials have help me a lot in the theory side of design. I particularly enjoy the practical part of my DT lessons, the feeling of success after making an product out of my own hands and able to use it. My GCSE project on a storage unit for students is one of my prides.
The reason for feeling so strongly about being an interior designer is because not only because I have great interest in designing and this have been my favourite subject from an early age but it has more opportunity for me to express myself than any other design subjects. It is amazing that how an interior designer can change the colour of the place or move the furniture around to make a great difference. I remember how I move around furniture at home when I was little. I am also sensitive with the combination of different colours and love to doodle on a piece of paper with colouring pencil. I feel very strongly that having a comfortable and satisfying place to live, will be the most important thing after health and wealth.
Other than dealing with school works, I was form leader and a member of the school chamber choir. I enjoyed performing on stage and taking part in school musicals and dance competitions. I am a member of the 2004 Hong Kong Young Ambassador, which I was trained to take a role of promoting Hong Kong Tourism. I am the IT and Design Director of the school 2004 Young Enterprise Company; we had a successful year in which we made a culture book about 26 different countries. This has improved my IT and Design skills a lot. During my vacation after my GCSE exams, I had work experience helping back stage in a drama production in a primary school. My job involved some props making and back stage management which requires lots of organisation. I am working part time in KFC as a team member since September 2004 whilst my job involved till handling and customer services. All these activities outside lessons has allowed me to meet different people outside school and also helped to develop my self-confidence and also my skills of communication, as I know that being an Interior Designer, good communication skills will be equally important.
In my free time, I like to spend my time reading, photography and listening to music. In recent years, I have been using quite a lot of Photoshop in my photography, which I find it extremely useful and wonderful. I enjoyed socialising with friends and meeting new people which they often give me new ideas and inspirations.
